Cohort Placement at AMPed

At AMPed, students are placed within learning cohorts based on academic readiness, social development, independence, and learning needs—not strictly by age or grade. These cohorts reflect how learning evolves over time and are designed to support growth, responsibility, and increasing academic complexity, rather than fixed grade-level boundaries.

Mastery, Purpose, and Future Readiness

High School at AMPed is a fully realized academic program designed for depth, rigor, and intentional preparation for life beyond school. Students engage in advanced coursework and interdisciplinary projects that demand analysis, synthesis, and sustained effort–while remaining closely guided by experienced faculty.

Learning emphasizes mastery, transfer, and impact, preparing students for college, careers, entrepreneurship, and meaningful contribution.

How Learning Works in High School

High School learning is intentionally structured and faculty-guided, even as students take on greater responsibility for their work. Teachers actively design learning experiences, set clear expectations, and remain closely involved through regular feedback, conferencing, and assessment.

Students are taught how to manage complex work—not left to figure it out alone.

Faculty support students by:

  • Co-designing learning plans and project pathways
  • Monitoring progress and providing ongoing feedback
  • Teaching advanced research, planning, and revision skills
  • Helping students reflect, recalibrate, and deepen their work

Independence at AMPed is developed through guidance, not assumed.

Academic Focus

High School learning includes:

  • Advanced reading, writing, and research

  • Quantitative reasoning and applied mathematics

  • Scientific investigation and experimentation

  • Social analysis, ethics, and civic engagement

  • Personalized academic pathways aligned to student interests and postsecondary goals

Progression is based on demonstrated mastery, supported by consistent faculty oversight and documentation.

Demonstrating Learning

Students demonstrate learning through:

  • Research-driven projects and capstone work
  • Written analysis, presentations, and formal exhibitions
  • Curated portfolios used for transcripts, applications, and future planning

Throughout high school, students are known well, challenged appropriately, and supported intentionally.

Graduates leave AMPed academically prepared, confident in their abilities, and practiced in navigating complex work with purpose and support
