Upper elementary is an exciting time at AMPed.  The pivotal transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn” means that the world opens up to them in amazing new ways.  Projects become more involved and student-led.  Students start taking on more responsibility for their own learning.  What do I know and what do I need to know to achieve this goal?  Executive functioning skills they learn now will help them navigate their world for years to come.

All that being said, upper elementary age students are still KIDS and need to move and play.  Outside time, hands-on learning, and lots of opportunities for active participation keeps kids engaged, even as material gets more complex.
