As a parent or legal guardian, you have the right to withdraw your child from their current school at any time, including mid-semester, and enroll them somewhere new. The process itself is simple: a short written notice to your child’s current school is usually all it takes. Most schools will handle the transfer of records once the new school is confirmed.
What About Their Records and Coursework?
Once you’ve enrolled your child at a new school, that school typically requests records directly from the previous one. A well-run mid-year transition should also account for where your child left off academically, so they’re not repeating work or missing gaps in what they’ve already learned.

- A team that actually plans for it. Ask any school you’re considering how they specifically support a student who’s arriving mid-year. Vague answers are a signal.
